Early arrival pROGRAM

PODER Workshops

Our are hour-long sessions to acclimate students to campus life and resources. These workshops are crafted with intentionality by our committee of upperclassmen Program Managers (PMs), and focus on professional and academic skills critical for student success.

First generation

Designed to explore the first-generation student identity, this workshop offers students the opportunity to cultivate confidence in their unique identities to prepare them for success through guided discussions and resource sharing.

Global experiences

In collaboration with the Global Experience Office (GEO), PODER students were given an early introduction to the various abroad experiences available at Northeastern.

Academics Workshop

Created to help students feel confident in the classroom, this workshop introduces key academic resources, strategies for managing coursework, and tips for scholarly success. Through guided activities and peer-led discussions, students will gain the tools to navigate their first semester stress-free.

Wellness

Establishing healthy wellness strategies play an important role in how students transition into Northeastern. Previous campus partner collaborations include guided meditation with the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service (CSDS); a visit from community resource dogs from the Northeastern Police Department (NUPD) Community Engagement Unit; and resources from Northeastern University Health and Counseling (UHCS).

Student life

Northeastern has over 400 clubs and organizations! Here we discuss how to get the most out of NU student life, finding work-life balance, and activities in Boston.

Financial Literacy

The Financial Literacy Workshop empowers students with essential skills for financial independence and money management in college. We cover a range of important topics, including understanding and responsibly using credit cards, basic investing principles, finding and applying for scholarships, and practical money-saving strategies as a student.

Professional Development

In collaboration with Northeastern Professional Leadership and Career Equity (NU PLACE), PODER students engage in career development and experiential learning. The workshop focuses on setting attainable goals and creating actionable steps to ensure success in future hiring opportunities.

Closing Workshop

Our final session wraps up the Early Arrival experience with a fun, community-centered activity and a chance to reflect on the week. Students will also get an introduction to PODER’s yearlong programming, ensuring continued support, connection, and growth beyond the summer.
